Lavender Tallow Cream

from $25.00

Relaxation is what most people associate lavender with, and righteously so, but it is also a workhorse for healthy skin. Lavender is a deeply healing nervine: it can ease sleeplessness, headaches, muscle tension, and stress. This same gentle plant also soothes redness, discourages bacterial growth, supports wound healing, and protects skin cells from environmental damage. In our home, lavender tallow cream is the queen of nervous system regulation. My daughters and I use it most evenings, massaging it into our skin as a way of releasing the weight of the day and easing ourselves toward sleep. My more even skin tone has just been an added bonus.

Available in 2 oz and 4 oz 100% recyclable/reusable glass jars — no plastic.

Why do we use tallow?

We began making herbal tallow creams for our daughter who had a month-long stay in the NICU in 2022. When she arrived early, infant massage with homemade herbal-infused oils and tallow creams became one of the most meaningful and effective ways we could support her recovery and her brand-new, extraordinarily sensitive skin. What we made for her became the foundation of what we offer today, skincare rooted in our regional food shed and tested first on the people we love most. Organic grass-fed tallow, organic jojoba oil, and whole plants, this is food for your skin, and it's as simple as it is effective. Our family uses our herbal tallow creams head to toe every day, and our skin holds onto that nourishment all day long.

Sourcing Matters

Our ingredients are as local as possible. What we don't grow or ethically forage ourselves, we source from people we love and businesses we trust. Our tallow comes from a ranch in my community — the ranchers are friends, and they raise happy, organic, grass-fed cows and bison who regenerate the soil. Please reach out if you'd like to hear more. Supporting the American Southwest food shed is one of my favorite things to talk about.

Tallow + Jojoba Benefits for Sensitive Skin

Tallow is one of the oldest skin foods we know of, and for good reason. Its fatty acid profile, which is rich in stearic, oleic, palmitic, and palmitoleic acids, closely mirrors the structure of our own sebum. This means your skin recognizes and absorbs it. Tallow strengthens the skin barrier, seals in moisture, supports repair, and is unlikely to clog pores. We gently render our tallow from grass-fed cows and bison raised on regenerative pasture by friends in our community.

We use organic jojoba oil that is grown and processed in Arizona and infused with whole lavender. Similar to tallow, jojoba's structure closely resembles your skin's natural sebum, making it deeply compatible, nourishing, and gentle — a natural fit for the sensitive skin this cream was first made for.

Applying our herbal tallow cream is the last step in an herbal skincare regimen to seal in and protect all of the naturally occurring plant compounds you just applied to your skin. This is slow skincare at its most elemental — nourishment rooted in relationship with the land.

Ritual Use

Massage a small amount on clean, damp skin before bed. Take your time. Let the scent of lavender settle you before sleep.

Applying tallow to damp skin creates an emulsion that allows the tallow to fully absorb into your skin, hydrating it and also preventing that hydration from evaopration.
